Renew Forge → SMS, in the Store + SMS and Agency plans (with a Store licence no SMS is sent, and the screen says so). Reminders always go by email; SMS is in addition.
- Choose Twilio or Vonage and enter your own account’s credentials; nothing is sent to a provider until you choose one and save. Requests go to
api.twilio.comorrest.nexmo.com. - Sent with each reminder: the customer’s billing phone number, the message (your shop name, the payment date and amount, the link to the subscription) and your credentials — no name, email or address. You need a lawful basis to text your customers.
- The provider’s secret (Twilio Auth Token or Vonage API secret) is stored only encrypted, with a key kept in
wp-config.php, not in the database. Add this line first, with any long random string:
php
define( 'RNWF_PRO_SECRET_KEY', '…long random string…' );If the line is ever lost, the saved secret can no longer be read: enter it again.
- Send by SMS: tick which reminders are also texted (by default the required ones: renewal, trial ending, discount ending). Country code for numbers written without one: 44 by default.
- Send a test SMS to your own number to check the setup.
- Each SMS is a row in the reminder log with the provider’s message id or its error; phone numbers are taken out of providers’ error texts before they are logged. Only the email counts as the regular reminder having gone out, not an SMS alone.
